SIYMC 2016

You did it again!

Thank you for attending the Social Innovation & Youth Mentorship Challenge!

Date: September 10, 2016

Location: @SFU Surrey Campus

Theme: "Solutions for a refugee crisis"

(How could we help to make the lives of those who are forced to flee their homes a little more manageable?)

Stream 1 - Build a mobile or Web app using google maps API. An app that can help refugees connect with services near them, or simply any other location services solution that teams come up with while brainstorming together with the charities represented.

Stream 2 - Story telling with data. We will gather data, identify interesting correlations, mash data, and create great Infographics that provide new insights into the refugee crisis. The output is going good to be great visuals that charities can use in their social media campaigns.

Stream 3 - Setup a Web and social strategy clinic for the charities we partner with. Individuals with experience can work with the charities to review current strategies being employed and recommend improvements.

Rewards

  • Students who participate will be awarded volunteer hours
  • Cineplex gift certificates for the winning team
  • Participation recognition on SIYMC website
  • Apps and Infographics will be showcased in a printed book (portfolio), and on social media
