Mentor Model

Match students with professionals in careers they are interested in

SIYMC selects college students, particularly those in low-income communities, or minority groups that face systemic barriers to career and business opportunities, to join the mentor program. We will match students with professionals in industry, academia, or government. Mentors will commit to a single meeting, or to be accessible over a six month period. Mentoring pairs have the option to continue their relationship through college completion.

Provide support for both mentors and mentee

SIYMC will provide guidelines and ideas for how conversations should go. Students don't have to worry about whether they have all the right questions; with some coaching and templates, both mentors and mentees will find the process to be simple and wholesome. For safety, both mentors and mentees will agree to a code of conduct. Relationship will be built through online communication, and in the future, post-COVID, in-person meetings.
